What is Email Marketing?

Email Marketing is a term used to describe electronic mail that is sent via email software on the  internet in attempt to get the end user to make a marketing decision. This decision made by the customer could be to request more information on a product or service from a email marketing company.
The email marketing service could be a major retailer or company trying to stay in contact with their customer base after a sale or purchase. The marketer would then use a email blast as a way to offer the customer upcoming product specials and news updates about special features being offered.

E marketing purpose is to get and maintain customer loyalty and brand awareness. The majority of emails a customer may get from a email blast is called transactional emails.
These emails result from the customer purchasing a product or service and receiving a response from the vendor on shipping details and receipts of purchase.
A lot of Email Marketers use Direct email marketing as a way to promote various products or services to new or existing customers. This is done through Opt-in emails. This consists of getting the customers permission first before receiving further email blasts from the merchant. This was a result of many complaints given by consumers about too many spam emails.

The Can Spam Act of 2003 was a direct governmental reaction to too many spam emails. This act authorizes a US $16,000 penalty per violation for spamming each individual recipient. The result of this is that email marketing companies today utilize email service providers that monitor the customers willingness to subscribe or unsubscribe from emails.
Email Marketing services can be very lucrative to the many businesses using it today. It has been found that the ROI (return on investment) is one of the highest form of marketing value. There are virtually millions of consumers who check there email on a daily basis whether that be via desktop or mobile phones.
